Bradford Boars Under 10s were crowned 'Junior Team of The Year' at the 2023-24 Season Awards this Saturday in recognition of a pivotal season for our junior section. With many players new to the sport, the squad progressed throughout the season in their individual skills, teamwork and understanding of the game.

Shaking off the fatigue of late night celebrations, two Bradford teams leapt into action for the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League (YYHL) Division 3 North and West. This weekend's tournament saw Aire Valley, Ben Rhydding, York and two teams from Bradford competing.

The Bs faced opposition that was often older and more experienced, with many in the Bradford side playing their first season of hockey. Despite a tough run of games, they showed grit and determination and will no doubt have learned a lot about playing as a team, and how to transfer the skills they learn on a Friday night into a game situation. Special mention to Goalkeeper Elsie who made some fantastic saves.

For the As, their hard work over the last 12 months paid off. Despite a more relaxed start, drawing 0-0 to Aire Valley, they quickly found their stride, scoring four against Ben Rhydding. Another win against Bradford Bs left only York between the As and a tournament win. Confident, flowing hockey followed, with every team member having some fantastic touches on the ball. Erin Haldane (2023-24 U10s player's player of the year) kept another clean sheet, and three goals from Charlie Stoddart (2023-24 U10s most improved player) and Hunter Metcalfe (2023-24 U8s player of the year) secured the win and a strong finish to the day.

If the under 10s are anything to go by, the future is very bright for Bradford Hockey Club!
